The “Book Design” Challenge

Developing a ‘Graphic Language.’

The “Character” Portrait Project

This portrait needed to reflect the characteristics of being particular and traditional (analytical), while depicting the subject’s confidence and self assurance. In the end, the portrait’s chosen visual style portrays a person that is intelligent and has dependable mannerisms. The imagery, textures and typography convey an appropriate and rational message.

The “Book Cover” Project

The book cover’s design process was a very detailed and thoughtful and included an introspective touch and unique approach: after reading the manuscript, the character portrait was included to visually described the ‘essence’ of Desca’s journey. It was editing and adjusted to the very end; designing each element as a unique piece to embellish the cover in an expressive and typographic manner.

The “Book Interior” Project

Book interior design requires much attention to detail; creating style sheets and master pages, determining settings for widows and orphans, and adjusting line tracking to minimizing hyphenation while editing content. In the end, all these practical typography considerations result in beautifully flowed texts and styled headlines that are easily read and enjoyable to view.
